Glossary

SEO & rank tracking glossary.

Plain-English definitions for the terms you meet inside Keyword Tracker 360 and across modern SEO.

AI Overview

Google's AI-generated summary that appears above traditional organic results for many queries. AI Overviews cite source URLs and can dramatically shift click-through rates. KT360 stores every AI Overview snapshot including cited sources.

Average position

The mean rank of a URL across a set of tracked queries or a time window. Useful for trend reporting, but hides individual keyword movement — always pair with rank distribution.

Cannibalisation

When multiple pages on the same site compete for the same query, causing Google to flip between them and depress overall performance. KT360's URL-level tracking surfaces cannibalisation the day it starts.

CTR (Click-through rate)

Percentage of impressions that result in a click. Best sourced from Google Search Console and blended against tracked rank position to spot underperforming pages.

DataForSEO

The SERP data provider that powers KT360's rank checks. Provides live top-100 organic results plus all SERP features from any location Google indexes.

GSC (Google Search Console)

Google's first-party console for search performance data. Impressions, clicks, CTR, and average position, sampled and anonymised. KT360 imports GSC data to blend against tracked rankings.

Keyword difficulty (KD)

A 0–100 score estimating how hard it will be to rank in the top 10 for a keyword. Based on the domain authority, backlink profile, and content quality of currently ranking pages.

Local pack

The 3-result map + business listing block shown for queries with local intent. The single highest-value SERP feature for local businesses.

People Also Ask (PAA)

Expandable question boxes that appear on many SERPs. A rich source of long-tail keyword and content-topic ideas.

Rank tracking

The daily practice of checking your Google position for a defined set of keywords across specified devices and locations. The foundation metric of SEO reporting.

SERP

Search engine results page. In modern SEO, a SERP is much more than 10 blue links — it includes AI Overviews, featured snippets, PAA, video packs, image packs, local packs, and knowledge panels.

SERP feature

Any non-standard SERP element: AI Overview, featured snippet, PAA, video pack, image pack, local pack, sitelinks, and more. Feature ownership is often more valuable than a #2 organic position.

SERP volatility

A measure of how much SERPs are shifting across a niche or location. High volatility usually signals an algorithm update or index refresh.

Share of voice (SOV)

The percentage of tracked-keyword visibility owned by a domain, weighted by search volume and position. The clearest single number for competitive positioning.

Zero-click search

A search that ends on the SERP without a click, typically because an AI Overview, featured snippet, or knowledge panel answered the query.
